Katheryn Ortiz-Giron is a Ph.D. student at the Institute of Fundamental Technological Research, Polish Academy of Sciences (IPPT PAN). She has a strong interest in the development of advanced materials for biomedical applications. Her research background focused on the fabrication and characterization of scaffolds for tissue engineering. During her master's degree, she developed bimodal scaffolds by combining electrospinning and fused deposition modeling for alveolar bone tissue regeneration. She also gained experience synthesizing PLGA nanoparticles and their incorporation into nanofibers for controlled drug release. Currently, she has joined the Pierini Research Group, where her research focuses on the development of multifunctional injectable electrospun microscaffolds with tailored chemical, mechanical, and drug-release properties for intervertebral disc regeneration.
